Chinese symbols and experiments in ink

Summerworkshop from September 2nd to September 5th 2025 - with Alex Angehrn, assistance Andrea Ritter

Far Eastern calligraphy is a concentrated, relaxed practice based on stillness. One's own movement takes shape in the form of lines and white spaces. The Chinese oracle characters, the oldest form of Chinese characters, show the world view and sensitivity of prehistoric man. The calligraphy of these characters opens a window to a basic, direct experience of the world. For the participants, this is the starting point for tracing their own feelings about the object depicted and finding a personal expression. This can be achieved through experimental gestural brushwork or by overlaying the signs with experimental printing techniques.
